Privacy Policy
Simbi Rebar (Pty) Ltd • Version 1.0 • Last updated 16 July 2026
1. Introduction
This Privacy Policy explains how Simbi Rebar (Pty) Ltd (“Simbi Rebar”, “we”, “us”, “our”) collects, uses, shares, and protects personal information in connection with the Simbi Rebar software (the “Software”), our website, and related services. It should be read together with our End User License Agreement and Terms of Use. We are committed to processing personal information lawfully under the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA) and, where applicable to users in those regions, the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
2. Information we collect
We collect only the minimum information needed to provide and support the Software.
Information you provide to us:
- Account and contact details: your name, email address, and company name when you sign up, start a trial, or purchase a subscription.
- Billing information: payment is processed by our payment provider (Paddle) acting as Merchant of Record. We do not receive or store your full card details; we receive only transaction and subscription status information.
- Correspondence: any information you include when you contact support or complete a form.
Information collected automatically when you use the Software:
- A machine fingerprint: a non-reversible identifier derived from your device’s hardware, used solely to enforce single-device licensing and trial eligibility. It is not used to identify you personally.
- Licensing and trial records: license key, activation status, and trial start/expiry, associated with your email address.
- Technical and update-check data: the Software version, your Autodesk Revit version, and approximate geographic region (country/region level), together with a non-identifying hashed value used to prevent abuse. We do not store your raw IP address.
Information we do not collect:
- We do not access, read, transmit, upload, or store your Revit project files, models, drawings, or their contents. All detailing work performed by the Software happens locally on your device.
3. How we use your information
We use personal information to: create and manage your account; issue, activate, validate, and enforce licenses and trials; process purchases, renewals, and cancellations through our payment provider; send transactional emails (such as license keys, receipts, renewal reminders, and service notices); provide support and respond to enquiries; maintain, secure, and improve the Software; and comply with our legal obligations.
4. Lawful basis for processing
We process personal information where it is necessary to perform our contract with you (providing the Software and license), where we have a legitimate interest (such as securing the Software, preventing license abuse, and improving the product) balanced against your rights, where we have your consent (which you may withdraw at any time), and where we are required to comply with the law.
5. Sharing your information
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use advertising networks. We share information only with service providers who help us operate the Software, and only to the extent necessary:
- Paddle — payment processing and Merchant of Record for billing.
- Resend — delivery of transactional email.
- Cloudflare — hosting of our licensing and update services and associated technical logging.
Each of these providers is required to protect your information to a standard consistent with this Policy and applicable law, and to use it only for the purposes we specify. We may also disclose information where required by law or to protect our legal rights.
6. International transfers
Some of our service providers process data on servers outside South Africa. Where personal information is transferred across borders, we take reasonable steps to ensure it receives a level of protection consistent with POPIA and, where applicable, GDPR.
7. Retention
We retain personal information only for as long as necessary for the purposes described in this Policy: account, license, and billing records for the duration of your relationship with us and for a reasonable period afterwards to meet legal, tax, and accounting obligations; trial records for the period needed to administer trial eligibility; and technical logs for a limited period for security and diagnostic purposes. When information is no longer needed, we delete or anonymise it.
8. Your rights
Subject to applicable law, you have the right to request access to the personal information we hold about you; to request correction of inaccurate information; to request deletion of your information; to object to or restrict certain processing; and to withdraw consent where processing is based on consent. To exercise any of these rights, or to request deletion of your data, contact us at info@simbi-rebar.com. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa (or your local supervisory authority).
9. Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal information against loss, misuse, and unauthorised access. Sensitive licensing data is encrypted, and license tokens are cryptographically signed. No system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. Children
The Software is a professional engineering tool intended for business use and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
11. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. The version in effect at the time you use the Software governs that use, and material changes will be notified through the Software or our website.
